English Listening Methodology

In this course, we are going to look at English teaching methodology, focusing especially on listening and vocabulary teaching methodology. First of all, we are going to combine actual learning and learning from the textbook about the English teaching method “3 Step System”. Using the experience and knowledge, we are going to create a listening training material based on the “3 Step System” and using the material in a trial lesson.

As for how the lesson is conducted, in the first semester, we are going to discuss the context of the textbook and the handouts in class. For the second semester, we are going to put what we’ve learned in the first semester into actual practice by making our own materials and conducting a trial lesson and discussing the effective teaching method and presentation method in class.

Quizzes for Listen to Me! Learners

It is a waste to let the learning process stop after feeling that you’ve understood the material you use to help you with your learning skill. Let’s try to make the words and phrases in the material into something that you can actually use when you speak, listen, read or write.

Vocabulary Test 1

There are several researches conducted on the correlation of vocabulary skill and English comprehensive skill. How well do you know your own vocabulary skill? In order to test on how well is your vocabulary skills, there are different kinds of test such as quantitative tests “the number of words you know”, qualitative tests “how well do you know the 18 different aspects of a word?” or response rate tests “how quick can you respond to a word”. These tests all differ in style and context according to what learners are tested on. The test we provide includes different kinds of testing styles to evaluate whether learners understand the meaning of the word when the word is shown and how to actually use the learned word in listening, speaking, and writing.

  • Response rate test (with audio)
  • Response rate test (without audio)
  • Response rate test (without audio)
  • Academic Vocabulary Test English-Japanese (without audio)
  • Composition Quiz

Vocabulary Test 2

As the test we provide has a fixed parameter, the difficulty level is considerably high, but if the learners aren’t able to clear the tests, it would be hard to say that they would be able to actually “use” the words learned. Let’s try and aim at perfect score.
